1. A message from our president
Welcome to the first issue of e-WAALC News for 2006. I hope you are refreshed and ready to face
the challenges and opportunities of the year ahead. I particularly want to
welcome our two new WAALC Executive members, Jim Plumridge and Paul
Barnes.
Our first task for the year is to define the most important issues for
the year ahead. To allow sufficient time
to make a goods start on this, we will replace our usual February WAALC
Executive meeting with a half day Saturday
planning session ( for details see next item).
We will focus on:
If you have ideas to contribute in any of these areas or other
suggestions about what WAALC should do, please contact us using one of the
methods offered at the end of the newsletter. Better still, why not set aside
the time and come along to the planning session? Your contributions will be most welcome.

2. Join us to plan 2006
The WAALC Executive Committee is meeting on 25th February to
plan WAALC’s activities for 2006. All
WAALC members are welcome to attend or to contribute suggestions.
Time: Saturday 9.00 am -12.30 pm
Venue: Centacare Employment and Training

to Perth City Train Station (opposite old Entertainment Centre). It's a secure building so you need to arrive
punctually in order to access the lift.

3. Try a virtual
The
A couple of people have registered for a virtual discussion of The Myth
of Ability. If you would like to join in
too, you will need:
1. A copy of The Myth of Ability, Nurturing Mathematical Talent in Every Child, by
Canadian John Mighton, published
in 2004 by The Text Publishing Company, Melbourne. You can buy it through Boffins and
Dymocks.
2. A computer microphone and either headphones or speakers for your
computer (or a combined headset).

4. Up-date on CGEA
Re-accreditation
The accreditation process for the Certificates in General Education for
Adults (CGEA) has commenced. The Service
Industries Curriculum Maintenance Manager (CMM) - General Studies & Further
